What is the best flat roof system for San Diego?

It depends on the building, the foot traffic, and the exposure. Single-ply membranes like TPO and EPDM are common for their continuous, watertight surfaces, and TPO's reflective surface cuts heat gain under the San Diego sun. Modified bitumen and built-up systems suit other buildings. Atlas Roofing San Diego matches the system to the roof rather than pushing one product.

Why does my flat roof pond water?

Because the slope or drainage is not moving water off the surface. A flat roof needs a positive slope and a designed path to drains or scuppers, and ponding after rain points to a drainage problem. Codes treat ponding as a defect because it shortens a roof's life. A flat roof installation with tapered insulation and proper drains can correct it.

Can I put shingles on a flat roof?

No. Shingles are designed to shed water down a slope, and on a nearly level roof there is not enough slope for them to work, so water sits and leaks under the overlaps. Low-slope roofs need membrane systems like TPO, EPDM, or built-up roofing built for a continuous, watertight surface. Atlas Roofing San Diego installs the right system for the slope.
